Hi everyone,
In case you know of someone looking for OER on Geography, these folks put together a Google doc consolidating links to OER in this subject area.

We've created a Google doc with links to OERs on this topic. Because we're using it for a course development project, we've limited edit access to our team for now. Thanks, all, for sharing. Larry, feel free to add this to your list.

Please join us on Tuesday , March 28th at SFU Harbour Centre (515 West Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC) from 5:30pm-8:30pm. This event is open to all and free, but seating is limited and [ http://www.lib.sfu.ca/about/branches-depts/rc/32099 | registration ] is required.
The Failure of Access: Rethinking Open Education
The use of open re-use licenses and Internet technologies have long promised to reduce barriers to education by making it more distributed, equitable, and open. Indeed, the promise of open education can trace its roots to the the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations 1948, which states “everyone has a right to education.” There is little formal evidence, however, that open education has an impact on increasing access to learning or making education more equitable.
This event will explore the goals, failures, and successes of open education. Join us in exploring such questions as: is open education succeeding in being a transformative movement that makes learning more accessible? What are the criteria and successes that should be used to measure if the open education movement is a success? What more needs to be done?
Our discussion will be led by keynote speaker Dr. Ishan Abeywardena (Advisor - Open Education Resources) from the [ https://www.col.org/ | Commonwealth of Learning ] and panelists from [ https://www.sfu.ca/ | SFU ] , [ https://www.ubc.ca/ | UBC ] , [ http://caperbc.ca/ | CAPER-BC ] , and [ https://sparcopen.org/ | SPARC ] .

Hi everyone,
Here are some ways that you can promote OEW at your institution:
Cheers,
Rosario
Three ways that PSE institutions can participate in [ https://www.openeducationweek.org/ | Open Education Week ] (OEW March 27-31 )
1. Organize one or more local activities (speaker, workshop, student reception) on campus during OEW to create open education awareness. There are promotional materials that can be downloaded and customized from the OEW site (banners, posters, slide templates). Optional but recommended: submit these local events to the OEW site and let your colleagues around the country know what you are doing. (Organizers might include library, prof dev dept, teaching & learning centers, student services)
2. Share the OEW online activities and resources with your campus . Organize a brown bag lunch or faculty meet-up around a webinar submitted to the Open Education Week calendar. Facilitate informal discussions on open education before and after.
3. Submit resources to the OEW site from your college e.g. short videos, infographs, case studies that showcase your OER adoptions and degrees (due end-of-February). Colleges can also submit their own branded webinars to the OEW site and present about their OER programs/pilots.

Hi there,
I thought some of you may be interested in this:
Someone who participates in the Google group for the Community College Consortium for Open Education Resources (CCCOER) has indexed all the links to OER that have been discussed in the group, by subject matter. He created a webpage with the links:

Good afternoon Librarians!
I am looking for a systems librarian for a technical consultation. To be more specific, we are moving our repository from Equella to DSpace and want to have permanent identifiers for the collection. DSpace is capable of working with handles and we need verification that there are no Canadian instances of handle registries and if that is correct, we need verification that a long term relationship with Handle.net (via USA) is in our interest.
Please reply to Brad Payne (bpayne(a)bccampus.ca) and I (acoolidge(a)bccampus.ca)

Dear colleagues,
Are you interested in learning more about open education, open pedagogy, and what roles are librarians are playing in promoting and supporting open education at their campuses?
Please consider joining the BCLA Academic Librarians Section, the BC Open Education Librarians group (BCOEL), BCcampus, and BCIT on Thursday, March 2nd 2017 for "The Future is Open: Libraries and Open Education." We will be gathering in downtown Vancouver from 8:30am to 2:00pm in the BCIT Atrium (Rm 825 - 555 Seymour St, Vancouver, BC V6B 3H6).
We are very excited to welcome keynote speaker Dr. Arthur "Gill" Green, who is a passionate advocate for and trailblazing creator of open education resources (OERs). Dr. Green teaches geographic information science and environmental geography as a faculty member at both the University of British Columbia and at Okanagan College. He believes that OER is a core component of responsible, open pedagogical approaches. He is an open textbook author and developer of open source educational software. He is also a 2016 BCcampus Open Textbook Faculty Fellow and a 2016-2017 Hewlett Foundation Open Education Research Fellow. His research on property rights issues in Central Africa, Southeast Asia, and North America has been featured in several international conferences including the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). His current research program examines textbook costs for students in British Columbia, develops best practices for open pedagogy, and creates virtual reality OERs for environmental education.

Webinar title: Faculty and Students working together to create OER: the Open Case Studies Project at UBC

Presentation Description:
The Open Case Studies project <http://cases.open.ubc.ca/> at the University of British Columbia brings together faculty and students to create and edit case studies as open educational resources. We have started by focusing on courses that have to do with sustainability because there are many courses across our campus that address issues in sustainability in some way and that use case studies to do so.
However, we are interested in any courses that use case studies and that want to make them open and available for others to revise and reuse. We have a small number of case studies so far, but hope the numbers will grow in the coming years as more faculty and students become involved. So far all of our cases are from courses at UBC, but we are investigating ways to include contributions from people around BC or beyond. Christina Hendricks, the lead faculty member on the project, will discuss how the project has worked so far, how courses have involved students in reading, adding to, or creating case studies, and how others can get involved.
Christina Hendricks is a Professor of Teaching in Philosophy at the University of British Columbia-Vancouver, who is also an advocate for open education generally, including the use and creation of open textbooks and other open educational resources. From 2014-2015 she was a Faculty Fellow with the BCcampus Open Textbook project, and from 2015-2017 she was an OER Research Fellow with the Open Education Group. <http://openedgroup.org/>
