I wanted to be sure that you all know about this. Date confirmed for Thursday, March 2, at BCIT Downtown Campus. 9-12 with catered lunch to follow and then, for those interested, an ALS meeting in the afternoon.
Hi there everyone,
I have a meeting with the Canada OER group tomorrow, and would like to report on what we are planning to do for Open Education Week in BC. I know Robin DeRosa is coming to speak at KPU and Douglas, right? Any other ideas and/or plans for events that week at your institutions?
Also, as you have details, please send them to me as BCcampus will place them on the calendar under Open Education Week, like what we did for Open Access Week.
Cheers,

Hello,
The first available date for all who responded to the poll is Feb.15th at 2:00 PM (if that doesn't work, it could also be a 2:30 or 3). So if that is still good for everyone we will meet by Skype then. Please either let me know your agenda items or you can also add them yourself if you want - http://bcoerguides.wikispaces.com/Meeting+Agenda+and+Virtual+Meeting+Room+I…

Hi, all.
I got sidetracked Friday afternoon and didn't actually get my request for feedback sent to BCLA.
However, I just received the message below. It appears selection committee is interested in the session proposal, but there are a couple of changes they would like to see.

Hi Martin
My name is Annette DeFaveri and I'm the Executive Director at BCLA. We recently sent you a "no" email suggesting that we weren't interested in your proposal for the BC Library Conference. This is not the case.
The Session Selection Committee asked that I get hold of you and see if you would be open to two changes in your proposal. We hope you will be, and that we can then go ahead and mount your session as part of the conference program.
Your proposal suggests there would be 7 speakers. We work to keep the number of speakers per session to 3, but take four when necessary. Would you be able to mount the session with a maximum of 4 presenters?
The other concern voiced in the selection meeting was about KPU. Several committee members suggested that KPU leads the province in open education adoption and has a strong history with Open Ed. With that in mind they wondered if KPU should be more heavily represented on the panel.
Overall the committee was very pleased to receive your session proposal and think the topic is valuable to both the BC Library conference specifically and to the learning in the BC library environment generally. The format for the session is great, starting with Gill Green and then moving to a panel discussion and we hope you want to keep that approach.
Would you consider the tweaks to the session? Or perhaps you have another suggestion?
Please let me know and I can (hopefully) move forward and add this session to the 2017 program.
Thanks for considering this Martin.

Annette

Hi there everyone,
I would like to ask the group for permission to use some of the materials from the Retreat we had earlier this year with the new community of practice I am also guiding - the Open Education Practices group, composed mostly by Instructional Designers. They are at the stage that they would like to think about aims and goals, so I would love to share some of the materials we used.
The materials are here:

I'm excited to share the news that Grand Valley State University
mathematics professor Ted Sundstrom is to receive the inaugural Daniel
Solow Author's Award from the Mathematical Association of America, in
recognition of /Mathematical Reasoning: Writing and Proof/
<http://scholarworks.gvsu.edu/books/9/>, an open educational resource
published through ourScholarWorks@GVSU
<http://scholarworks.gvsu.edu/>repository platform. The Daniel Solow
Author's Award celebrates authors whose materials have had a positive
impact on undergraduate mathematics education.
/Mathematical Reasoning: Writing and Proof/is one of our favorite OER
and library publishing success stories: after Dr. Sundstrom reclaimed
his copyright from the original commercial publisher, the GVSU Libraries
helped him make the textbook openly available online to a growing global
audience. Dr. Sundstrom's textbook has been formally adopted at 47
universities, while the digital editions in ScholarWorks were downloaded
more than 22,000 times in 2016 alone!
On behalf of the GVSU Libraries' scholarly communications team,
congratulations to Dr. Sundstrom!

Hello,
It is that time of semester when we hopefully see more attention brought to the high cost of textbooks. UVIC made the papers - http://www.saanichnews.com/news/410166795.html#.WHZqlZmgDuo.twitter
And here at Douglas, the Douglas College Student Union set up a table set in our concourse area (see attached picture). I took the picture at the end of the day but during the day I noticed they had a lot of traffic around the table.
Did anything happen at your institution that you would like to share?

Hello,
I was going to send out a Doodle for our next meeting but as I look at Rosario's doodle for the mediawiki training it looks like everyone is available on Wednesday Jan. 25th. Do you think it is possible to have a meeting that day as well or would that be too much? If so, I can put out a Doodle for dates after Jan. 25th.
Thoughts?

Hi there everyone,
Clint Lalonde, my colleague at BCcampus whom most of you may know, has kindly agreed to lead us through a refresher training session on Mediawiki on January 25, at 1pm.I have just sent you all a meeting invite so that the date is booked on your calendars. Thank you Clint! :-)
In order to participate in the session, you will need a BCcampus account. If you worked on any of the content that already exists in the Mediawiki (https://mediawiki.bccampus.ca/index.php/Category:BCOER) chances are you already have an account. You may not remember your login credentials, but you can recover them from the login page. If you do not have a BCcampus account, then you should email helpdesk(a)bccampus.ca and request one ahead of the training session.
I have explained to Clint that he will have two audiences:
* A group of folks who have worked on the Mediawiki in the past, but have forgotten how to go about it because it has been a while since they added/updated any content
* A group of folks who are totally new to Mediawiki
We are going to keep this session fairly informal and Clint will try to respond to the differing needs of these two groups as much as possible. However, if you worked in Mediawiki before, and you have an idea of what topics may be helpful for Clint to cover in the session, could you send me those in a separate email? I will then compile them all and send to Clint to help him streamline the training.
On a last note, Clint would like to use Blue Jeans for the session. In the meeting invite, I included the joining instructions, and I am including them here as well, just in case you find it easier to have them on an email:

Subject: Present with Us: OEW
Hello CCCOER Community!
March 27-31, 2017 is [ https://www.openeducationweek.org/ | Open Education Week ] ! Open Education Week (OEW) is an awareness raising event meant to highlight the efforts of institutions and individuals who work to increase the missions of open education worldwide. In particular, we are interested in hearing about how people are increasing adoption of OER in the CCCOER community of practice.
CCCOER would like to host several short presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday March 28 and 29 showcasing the works of our network institutions and individuals. We are calling for proposals for short webinar presentations on one of the following two themes:
Just Get Started: first steps in OER adoption
Start to Finish: along the pathway to OER Degrees
Please note, the point of these short (15-30 minute) presentations is to showcase projects adopting openness in teaching and learning. We welcome presentations from whole institutions, individual faculty, or partnerships.
To submit your proposal, please visit this [ https://goo.gl/forms/Kb90A2De8rtNdp2S2 | Google Form ] . We will be accepting proposals until mid-February.
Presenting at OEW is a great way to showcase your efforts in OER adoption, and it is a great way to reach an international audience celebrating open education in all of its forms.
Thank you for you interest!
Happy Holidays,

Open Education Week also [ https://www.openeducationweek.org/page/call-for-participation | accepts proposals ] for people who want to share videos, projects, institutionally supported presentations, and many other projects meant to raise awareness of open education. Events accepted by the OEW organizers will be shared by the OEW website.
CCCOER events of that week are partnered with OEW, and will appear in the directory. However, we will also organize presentations specifically for our community and provide support for use of the conferencing system we use for monthly webinars and advisory meetings.
