Hi there everyone,
I saw these examples of lib guides in the CCCOER group, and thought some of you might be interested in looking at them. Let me know if these things are of no interest, and I will stop posting here :-)

We have done the same as Chelsea. Most faculty don’t even want access, they prefer to work with us on the content and let us get it organized. It’s a nice way to combine OER with library subscription content too.

Hi Denise,
I *sort of* did this for the current semester with a faculty member teaching Human Resources Management. She really just wanted a place to store her OER textbook that did not require students to log in, and I offered her a [ http://libguides.stcc.edu/c.php?g=555211 |
libguides page ] . It does not contain any other content, as you can see via the link.
She wanted more content, but did not give me enough notice to build something in time. I am totally open to the idea and hope to work with her over the winter break to make a more interesting page.
I should note, however, that many of my colleagues did not like the idea of faculty having a libguide. They were concerned that the idea would catch on and would be too much work for the library. I highly doubt this will be an issue. There were also concerns that if we gave faculty an admin account that they could potentially do some damage to our other pages. However, this can be solved with permission settings.
I hope this was helpful. Good luck!

Has anyone collaborated with teaching faculty on creating LibGuides for specific OER classes? Some OER faculty here at Reynolds Community College are interested in using LibGuides to store, embed, link to OER content (rather than using Blackboard, Candela, etc.) If so, can you provide links to some sample LibGuides?
Thanks!

Hi there everyone,
The email lin sent me yesterday with the program for the ALS meeting on Dec. 9 has ALS/BCOER in teh title.

Hi, all.
I have just submitted the BCOEL proposal.
Part of the submission process required entering the names and emails of the speakers, which then led to automatically generated confirmation emails. Can those of you who provided names contact your respective recruit(s) and just let them know nothing is official until/unless the proposal is accepted? Probably better having a message come from someone they know rather than some UFV librarian apparently signing people up for conferences...
Here is the panel as submitted:
Arthur 'Gill' Green (faculty, UBC)
Ken Jeffery (faculty, BCIT)
Farhad Dastur (faculty, KPU)
Courtney Miller (student, SFU)
Brenda Smith (Librarian, TRU)
Loretta Teng (Instructional designer, BCIT)
James Rout (Associate VP, BCIT)
Thanks.

Hi everyone,
This is an important notice to let you know that the ALS meeting scheduled for Dec. 9 at BCIT downtown campus has been postponed to January 2017 due to the weather forecast for the end of the week, which includes heavy snow fall for Thursday and Friday.
The January 2017 dates are still to be determined. We will keep everyone on these lists posted as soon as new dates are confirmed. So stay tuned and enjoy the snow, if you can!

Hi, all.
I will not be able to extract myself from a concurrent meeting today, but a few things to report:
As mentioned, BCLA proposal drafts at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18eGDZvLlWh996ocO9qxyBAQ1RfjTjx_qbMLoLTX…
This is due next Thursday, I believe, so I'm happy to revise/tweak based on group input. The big question is determining the speaker for the first session - basically it's scripted for Arthur Gill Green, as discussed with Lin and Brenda. Who would ask him about this?
UFV update: I have had a discussion about open textbook adoptions with our trades programs director, and I trying to have Rod Lidstone come and talk to our trades faculty. Rod is willing, and is currently doing some collaboration with someone at UFV, so it depends on the collective interest/admin pressure to arrange a guest appearance.
I will be attending ALS on December 9th. Let me know if you need me to help with anything that day.
Thanks.

Hello, folks.
With input from Lin and Brenda, I have (finally) finished putting together two session proposal drafts for BCLA 2017:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/18eGDZvLlWh996ocO9qxyBAQ1RfjTjx_qbMLoLTX…
They need tweaking, possibly some additional information, or perhaps outright re-writing depending on the speakers we corral.
I believe the next meeting is November 29th? I need to be reminded of the time since this didn't make it to my calendar at the first announcement.
Thanks.

Hi all,
Sorry, having technical difficulties here and can't seem to connect to the Skype meeting from either my work computer or phone. Here's some info, though, on a series of Open Access Week events happening at SFU here: http://www.lib.sfu.ca/help/publish/scholarly-publishing/open-access-week
Two that might be of particular interest to this group are:
- Open in Action: a panel discussion<http://www.lib.sfu.ca/help/research-assistance/subject/publishing/31653> on Oct. 25th at SFU Vancouver (following the BCRLG-sponsored Rick Anderson talk on reforming scholarly communication<http://www.lib.sfu.ca/help/publish/scholarly-publishing/31590>)
- Adopting OER: The Why, What, and How of Open Educational Resources<http://www.lib.sfu.ca/about/branches-depts/rc/research/31464> on Oct. 27th at SFU Burnaby
These events are open to all but free registration is recommended!
Thanks, Hope

Subject: [Bcoelsteering] Meeting reminder - Thursday Oct.13th
Hello,
Our meeting is scheduled for 10:00 AM this Thursday via Skype. Here is the Skype link - https://join.skype.com/CPlXM7LMAqj0
I’ve also attached the minutes from our last meeting in case you haven’t had a chance to view them.
We wanted to meet to discuss upcoming events for Open Access Week but let me know if I should add anything else to the Agenda.
Thanks,
Debra
