Good morning Canada OER!
Scheduling our next meeting for late June. Please complete the doodle poll:
https://doodle.com/poll/k8eu9v7igvfwwtd2
I have been chatting with some Canada OER keeners about adding 15 minutes to the end of our regular conversation to allow for discussion on a specific topic. It seems that everyone really wants to talk about platforms for open textbook publishing. The plan is to use our regular 45 minutes for updates and then get into a conversation about platforms. The meeting is an hour and 15 minutes as a result, but don’t feel you have to stay for the platform discussion unless you are interested!
Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions.

Open Textbook Initiative
On June 6, 2016, eCampusOntario released the first Call for Proposals to support the development of Open Educational Resources (OER) at Ontario colleges and universities. A total of 61 proposals were received and 24 projects were funded. With the generous support of the Ontario Government and the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, eCampusOntario is building on the success of this first funding program to incent the continued adaptation, adoption and creation of Open Textbooks for Ontario.
The Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development has provided funding to increase the presence and use of open textbooks in the following priority areas:
1. Textbooks for high-enrolment first and second-year courses
2. Original French-language content
3. Indigenous studies content
4. Trades and technical skills content
5. Content supporting the settlement of immigrants and refugees
Funded Open Textbook Initiative projects are intended to incent uptake of these resources across the province, encourage the adoption and adaptation of open textbooks by educators across Ontario institutions, and support early adopters at a grass-roots level. This Call for Proposals describes the process and criteria for selecting projects for funding.

Digital Inclusion Research
As a centre for excellence in online learning, eCampusOntario has a mandate to support leading edge Ontario research in the field. In this Call for Proposals, the Ontario Digital Service has provided funding to support researchers who wish to explore digital inclusion and related areas of focus, such as inequities in access to the Internet and digital skills, practices of design which exclude groups or individuals, and explorations of the concrete ways in which people can benefit from the application of digital skills and access across sectors (e.g., healthcare, education, civic participation) as well as ways in which people may be put at risk as a result of lack of knowledge, or skills in digital technologies.

* [ https://open.bccampus.ca/open-educational-resource-grant/ | OER Grants ]
New this year
We are excited to announce the newest grant for this year- the Zed Cred/Z-Degree grant. A Zed Cred/Z-Degree is a set of courses in a specific program area that allows a student to earn a credential, such as an associate degree or certificate program, with zero textbook costs by way of using open educational resources and/or free library materials.
Successful Open Educational Resources Zed Cred/Z Degree implementations will empower faculty to lead the work, develop broad-based support across the institution for using open educational resources, and promote the benefits of enrolling in an open educational resources degree programs to students. The process of developing an open educational resources degree will build institutional capacity for designing clearer and more efficient pathways to credentials and better connecting student learning outcomes to curriculum and pedagogy.
BCcampus will distribute two grants (maximum $35,000.00) to BC Institutions committed to the development of a “Zed Cred” (Z Degree) Program. With the funds, Institutions will not only develop pathways to credential by adopting and adapting pre-existing OER, the funds may also be used to create new OER necessary for the program. The Institutions will also be required to package and publish their degree paths such that other Institutions from BC and beyond can borrow from their progress. Any learning materials created under the Zed Cred program will hold a [ https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/ | Creative Commons BY license ] and must be fully editable.
As this initiative is new to British Columbia, we welcome any questions you may have about the grant program, the outcomes, and expectations. Please feel free to connect with our Open Education Team at [ mailto:opentext@bccampus.ca | opentext(a)bccampus.ca ]

* Presentations (PowerPoint, Open Office, Prezi, etc)
* Multimedia content, such as audio or video, that could further enhance the textbook.
* Simulations.
