Open online course about open educational resources June 1-15

Dear Canada OER Friends, Apologies for cross posting if it occurs. You may, or may not have heard about the Cross-Canada OER mini-MOOC, Making Sense of Open Eduction. I am launching a two-week online course as part of my doctoral research from June 1-15, 2018 and would like to invite and include any educators in your region that you believe might be interested in learning more about open ed. If you can share the message below with post-secondary educators, I would be very grateful. I hope that it will be a fun and engaging learning experience for educators new to the practice of open. Best, Jenni If you believe there is interest, please share the following description with educators in your network: Suggested Subject Line: Open online course about open educational resources June 1-15 Dear Teaching Community, >From June 1-15, 2018, a global (and cross-Canada) mini-MOOC (massive open online course) called Making Sense of Open Education will take place through the OpenLearn UK Moodle platform. The course will consist of short daily lessons and activities at an introductory level. The purpose of the course is to increase awareness and use of open educational resources (OER) as part of post-secondary teaching and learning in Canada and globally. Topics will include OER, open educational practices (OEP), copyright and the Creative Commons licenses, and open tools for adaptation. A variety of experienced open educators, and friends from global regions will participate and support learning and sharing opportunities. Daily lessons will take approximately 30 minutes to complete with a targeted (and hopefully fun) daily practice opportunity to apply what you are learning. The course team and others that have already signed up look forward to your participation. There is no cost to participate in the course. The full set of course modules will be made available on the course front page June 1 for you to download, save, and adapt as you desire if you prefer to take the course in a self-directed way. Seeking Connections -- Open Indigenous OER Projects

*cross-posted* Hi Everyone, We have a new project at the University of Alberta where we are sourcing free/open resources which intersects with indigenizing education in K-12 (social studies). I'm hoping to recruit some other open educators to share their experience with the project team (instructor, doctoral student, librarians, and me). Faculty of Education, Elementary Education EDEL 335 Curriculum and Pedagogy in Elementary School Social Studies Project Lead: Sharla Peltier This project will conduct critical review of existing First Nation Metis and Inuit education materials in Alberta relevant to teaching Social Studies to identify and/or customize OER for teaching of pre-service teachers and/or classroom use by social studies elementary teachers and faculty with appropriate Indigenous contexts in response to recent revisions to Teaching Quality Standard #5: Applying Foundational Knowledge about First Nations, Metis and Inuit. Canadian post-secondary faculty: opportunity to review new OER for Open Choice

Hello Everyone, See the below opportunity for all Canadian post-secondary faculty. Open Choice invites Canadian faculty to review OER for their upcoming database Choice, a publishing unit at the Association of College and Research Libraries, plans to release a new online database of open educational resource (OER) reviews called Open Choice. The new service will feature a significant collection of critical reviews of OER targeted to teaching faculty, instructional designers, librarians, and university staff charged with acquiring digital tools for instruction (IT, instructional technologies, etc.). We are looking for active teaching faculty who be interested in reviewing open educational materials for Open Choice. The reviews are more substantive, averaging 2,000-2,500 words, and use a structured review rubric. The rubric provides consistency in reviews and makes them easier to write. All reviews go through a formal copyediting process. We are able to provide a honorarium of $200 for each review.
