In January 2020, the CARL Open Education Working Group (OEWG)<https://www.carl-abrc.ca/advancing-research/scholarly-communication/open-ed…> held a two-day in-person Open Education Leadership Essentials training event<https://www.carl-abrc.ca/mini-site-page/oele2020/>. This event brought together academic librarians from across Canada and gave them the opportunity to build their open education leadership skills.
The OEWG has taken the materials from this in-person event and created the Open Education Leadership Essentials Workshop-in-a-Box (OeLE WIAB). These materials will eventually be released under a Creative Commons licence. This will allow members of the open education community to use the OeLE WIAB resources to run similar in-person or online training events.
On April 20, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm EDT, the OEWG will hold an Edit-a-thon to provide individuals outside of the CARL OEWG with the opportunity to review and help improve the draft English-language version of the OeLE WIAB. Once the draft English materials are finalized, they will be translated into French.

Hello all,
An instructor at my institution is interested to beginning a project (or collaborating on an existing one) to work with student artists and actors in order to create a range of human anatomy multimedia resources that are more representative of both anatomical diversity and the diversity of folks teaching and learning in anatomy and physiology. This would include, but isn't limited to, ensuring a diversity of skin tones and body types in anatomical drawings and videos, as well as diversifying them to include sexual and ethnic diversity.
If anyone is already engaged in this type of work, or has any resources to suggest, I would love to hear from them!
Thanks in advance,
Sarah

Hello,
One of our professors in Biology is looking for OER to use in his Genetics course. The outcomes are below. I would appreciate any suggestions.
By the completion of this course, it is expected that students will be able to: 1. Describe Mendel’s first and second law of genetics and identify how they relate to cytogenetics. 2. Predict the outcome of crosses and to carry out pedigree analysis. 3. Outline the principles of recombination and to map genes on chromosomes. 4. Recognize how expression of genetic information is related to phenotype 5. Describe how alleles behave in populations and identify the processes that contribute to evolutionary change.

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN A STUDY ABOUT THE USE OER DURING THE COVID-19
PANDEMIC
Dear Teachers,
My name is Viviane Vladimirschi and I have a Doctorate in Education with a
specialization in Distance Education and Open Education. I have been
working as a consultant, researcher and instructional designer in this area
since 2002.
I am conducting a study for the Open University of England (OUK) that aims
to explore the many challenges that K-12 teachers faced when using
emergency remote learning during the pandemic period and if, at all, and in
which ways you have made use of Open Educational Resources (OER) or Open
Educational Practices (OEP) in your pedagogical practices during this
period. The criteria to participate in this study is that you teach K-12
and have familiarity with the use of OER.
The study will take place over 6 months. During this period, you will be
invited to participate in a 45-to-60-minute online interview individually.
After this initial interview, you will be invited to participate in an
online workshop so that I can validate the data collected and analyzed
during the online interview.
The risks associated with participating in this study are negligible and
participation is voluntary. Data containing comments regarding
participation in the online interview and online workshop will not include
information capable of identifying participants, and names will be replaced
by pseudonyms.
The benefits are your contribution to a better understanding of what
obstacles were present during this pandemic period, how these obstacles
were overcome, and whether the use of OER supported your professional
practice.
This study will help inform new sharing policies or practices in times of
crisis, which is significant for the teaching practices of K-12 teachers in
Canada and for the profession as a whole.
I deeply appreciate your collaboration and I ask that you respond to this
email by March 18, indicating your participation or not in this study and
indicating your preferred day and time to conduct the online interview. As
soon as I receive a response from you, I will send you the Informed
Consensus form.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me
at any time.
Thank you.
Kind Regards,
Viviane

Happy Open Education Week everyone!
At Kwantlen Polytechnic University we are proud to have built world-leading institutional supports for open education, including for our ground-breaking Zero Textbook Cost program<https://www.kpu.ca/open/ztc>, the creation, adaptation, and adoption of open educational resources<https://kpu.pressbooks.pub/catalog/openkpu> (including a grant<https://www.kpu.ca/open/grants> and publishing<https://www.kpu.ca/library/OPUS> program), and faculty fellowships for open pedagogy<https://www.kpu.ca/open/un-sdg-fellowship> and open education research<https://www.kpu.ca/open/research-fellowship>.
Today I am thrilled to share that we have developed and are now launching a comprehensive, flexible, and online training program for learners worldwide. Our new Professional Program in Open Education<https://youtu.be/4GShBIbi7PA> is the ideal professional development opportunity for educators, practitioners, technologists, librarians, leaders, policymakers, and others who endeavour to widen equitable access to education. This program is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation for new practitioners as well as to complement and significantly advance the expertise of those already working to support open education.
This program is designed to develop expertise and capacity across a broad spectrum of open educational practices, including open educational resources and pedagogies, educational technologies, policy, advocacy, and scholarship. The program balances both theoretical and practical elements, always ensuring that critical perspectives and issues are foregrounded. The program is open to all and does not require institutional membership or sponsorship.
Post-secondary institutions, non-profit organizations, government agencies, foundations, GLAM, and other groups seeking to advance the goals of open education may draw on this program to develop their staff expertise and capacity. The program is intentionally designed to include practical elements and provides the opportunity for participants to develop and refine organization-specific tools, policies, and programs.
The courses in the Professional Program in Open Education have been developed by globally-recognized experts and are offered through KPU’s Continuing & Professional Studies. To express interest in enrolling in this program (commencing Fall 2022) or to learn more, visit: https://www.kpu.ca/cps/open-education
