Hi all,
In reading through last week's meeting minutes, I learned about a ton of
awesome OER developments happening across the country. It would be great to
have this progress more widely shared with the OER community.
One channel of communication that I help coordinate is the OER Digest
<https://www.ecampusontario.ca/Content/open-content-funding>, a bi-weekly
newsletter on open education updates, reminders and opportunities. It would
be great to have any relevant news pieces included in the Digest. If you
are interested, please send any updates to oerdigest(a)gmail.com and
subscribe to receive the Digest at http://bit.ly/oerdigest
<https://t.co/JrGDJEHbpX>.
Our next issue will be released on February 9th.
Thanks,
Brady

Here is the doodle link for our next meeting: http://doodle.com/poll/gz8qtun4tnkrrqn2
Times are in Eastern, but it should work out for those of us in the West as well. This meeting can be a primer for Open Ed week!

Good morning everyone.
There is some interest in our College of Dentistry about OER and I’m wondering what might be out there that you already know about.
Thank you.

Hi All
Lauri and I were talking this morning about the CC Global Summit and we would like to propose that Canada OER pitch a proposal for a panel discussion about Open Education Initiatives in Canada.
Are folks interested in this and would you be able to attend?

Thanks!

Sorry for cross-posting, but an instructor in the faculty development unit in the College of Medicine is looking for OER to replace the following commercial textbooks. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thank you.
Learner-Centered Assessment workshop series. These are 6 workshops based on the book, Learner-Centered Assessment on College Campuses by Huba & Freed. We use 6 of the chapters – 1 for each workshop. The themes for these workshops happen outside this particular series but we’ve had these as a “series” simply because of the resource book which has them all in it.
Chapters 1 & 2 are quite general & theoretical. They discuss the philosophy underpinning moving from Teacher Centered to Learner Centered & some of the components involved (ex: having learners apply knowledge, active learning, continuous feedback, positive learning environment, etc.) Other workshops are on Learning Objectives, Rubrics, Ill-Defined Problems, & Portfolios – with the common theme of tying them into a Learner-Centered approach.
How Learning Works Series. Book is How Learning Works: 7 Research-based principles for smart teaching by Ambrose, Bridges, DiPietro, Lovett, & Norman. The topic of the chapters is as follows: Prior learning, Knowledge organization, Motivation, Mastery, Practice & feedback, Student development & course climate, & Self-Directed learners.
