Thank you everyone. I know that Creative Clinical Teaching is being used in one course in
our College of Nursing. I will pass on to the instructor that there does seem to be some
interest in a potential collaboration around a fundamental text. Perhaps this is something
we can talk about for those of us who will be at OpenEd in October.

Hi Heather,
I reached out to the main advocate for OER in nursing in Alberta and didn't source
anything at the foundations level. Sorry. She has a few others if you're
interested:
* Melrose, S., Park, C. & Perry, B. (2015). Creative clinical teaching in the
health professions. Available at
http://epub-fhd.athabascau.ca/clinical-teaching/
* Melrose, S., Park, C. & Perry, B. (2013). Teaching health professionals online:
Frameworks and Strategies. Athabasca, AB, Canada: AU Press: Available

* Melrose, S., Dusome, D., Simpson, J., Crocker, C., Athens, E. (2015). Supporting
individuals with intellectual disabilities & mental illness: What caregivers need to
know. Vancouver, British Columbia: BCcampus. Available at

She expressed interest in working on a foundations level open text, I would love to
connect you and/or David with her if something moves forward.

We’ve had some discussions about this with Rebus and OpenStax, looking at a health
vertical and being very explicit about how it could work on national/regional
certification basis. Had the conversation with David Harris (OpenStax) last April at
Hewlett Foundation meeting. I think it could be a biggie for all of us.
Early planning, but definitely being discussed. We’d love to do it as a collective
effort.

A nursing instructor here just told me that they’ve heard rumours that the textbook
they’ve been using for several courses may no longer have a Canadian edition
(
https://www.amazon.ca/Canadian-Fundamentals-Nursing-Patricia-Potter/dp/1926…) which
will mean them having to begrudgingly switch to a Pearson text. She said it would be great
if there was an open textbook instead. Does anyone know of something existing or in the
works?
Thank you.
