BCOEL June 26th - Please respond ASAP

Hello, Lin needs to place the catering order by this Friday so we need to know how many people can make it that day and whether you have any dietary requirements. Also, we roughly laid out a plan that we would do business in the morning and a project in the afternoon. So as to not waste any time on the day, we should come up with more details on what we are doing. Please share your thoughts and ideas. BCLA conference slides

Hi, all. Attached are the powerpoint slides from the BCLA session on OER in both pptx format and open document format. I finally tried uploading the file to the library toolshed, but apparently I have triggered the spam filter, so I will have to wait until that is resolved. It is supposed to live here: https://librarytoolshed.ca/content/collaborative-effort-institutional-oer-i… Note the CC license on the first slide. I believe we once briefly discussed preparing a stock statement that could be applied to any of the original work we complete/undertake. All the statement really needs added is the home URL of whatever content we are licensing. Top Hat

Hi everyone, I've had an instructor here contact me about Top Hat. What do you think? Do you guys know anyone using it? Pros? Cons? I saw what Amy Hofer from Open Oregon wrote about it, but was wondering if you guys knew anything. Amy's concerns were that students lose access to the platform and the data in the platform can't be exported, so any custom versions of open textbooks/question banks/etc. can't be used elsewhere. And the Top Hat content is under copyright even though it can be modified within the platform itself. Thanks, Brenda

Meeting during the Open Textbook Summit

Hi there everyone, Apologies for the very short notice on informing you of the following... So, we had agreed as a group that we would meet for lunch during the OT Summit. We only needed a room or a space where we could get together. So... Christy did a great job and got us a place: We have booked room 101 https://www.sfu.ca/mecs/facilities/harbour-centre/meeting-rooms/boardrooms.… on Day 1 of the Summit from 12 - 2pm... So, the plan is for us to grab our lunch food and move to this room for a lunch meeting. The only thing we are asked to do is to bring our lunch remains to the garbage and leave the room as tidy as possible. So, see you all there tomorrow. Hi, all. There is a UFV math faculty member very interested in completing an open textbook on calculus he started a couple of years ago. We’ve had a few conversations in the past, but he has had time constraints, as well as some uncertainties around recombining open licensed content that I haven’t quite been able to alleviate yet. He also has a different pedagogical approach in mind, and one that he apparently cannot easily work into the existing BC Campus calculus texts. The details escape me, but it made a lot of sense to me as someone who never responded well to traditional approaches of teaching math. So quite some time after starting and outlining from scratch, he has realised it will be more efficient to complete by incorporating existing content. And I now get the impression he is looking for some collaboration opportunities with others who have specifically worked with open math content. Do any of you know of anyone actively using and revising math content?
