The Open Education Research Institute (OERI) is an opportunity for new and emerging researchers interested in open educational practices to deepen their knowledge and sharpen their skill set while connecting with other researchers and joining a Provincial mentorship network. The one-day institute will begin with an overview of existing research on open educational practices, including a special focus on research conducted in or by researchers in British Columbia. Participants will learn about different theoretical and methodological frameworks for research in open education and receive guidance on practical issues such as preparing applications for ethical review of their research projects and publishing their work in open access journals or repositories. Participants will work in affinity groups to draft and revise their research questions and be paired with an experienced researcher, who will serve as their mentor for the following year. The OERI is jointly funded by KPU Open Education and BCcampus. While there will be no cost to register for the event, registration is required to plan for catering and other logistics. The OERI has deliberately been scheduled to take place the day after the Festival of Learning<https://festival.bccampus.ca/> to make it easier for those travelling to the Lower Mainland for that event to participate in the institute. BCOEL meeting Feb - in-person

Hello, I hope that you all received invitations to online BCOEL meetings for Mondays, Jan. 13, March 9, and April 6, 1-2pm. If you did not, please let me know and I will make sure you are on the invitation. For our in-person meeting in February, would Friday Feb. 7 or 14 work for people? Let me know if either or both dates work for you. Should I book a room at BCIT downtown campus? A 3 hour meeting (9-12) might be enough time but it depends on a few things. Perhaps we should book a room for 9-1 and hope for 9-12? So far, on our agenda for the in-person meeting we have: * Business meeting * Selina McGinnis would like to meet with us - she is the lead UX designer for the open textbook findability project * CARL Workshop - either those who are able to attend the CARL workshop give a mini-workshop/summary or we discuss how to bring a similar workshop to BC? Hard to know what this part of the meeting might look like until the 2 day workshop in Toronto has happened.
